Smartypants

Smartypants are patterns that are replaced by more useful characters.

Note:
This is a local implementation of the "Smartypants" concept. In some details it may deviate slightly from other implementations.

Hint on Typography

CSS allows to automatically apply typographically correct quotes.
See https://css-tricks.com/almanac/properties/q/quotes/

HTML:

She said <q>This is a <q>quote</q></q>. <!-- nested quotes -->

SCSS:

.pfy-lang-de-ch {  // → maintained by pagefactory
    q { quotes: "«" "»" "‹" "›"; } // → pairs of 1st and 2nd level quotes
    q::before { content: open-quote; }
    q::after { content: close-quote; }
}

She said This is a quote.

Note: MDP only supports one level of quotes, e.g. ''This is a quote'' ⇒ This is a quote.
